Makhlouta is an ideal meal to have in cold weather and it’s also filled with nutrients. Tell us how you found it should you happen to try it

Ingredients

  • ½ cup red beans
  • ½ cup white beans
  • ½ cup wheat
  • ½ cup chickpeas
  • ½ cup lentil
  • ½ cup thick cracked wheat
  • 3 big onions, cubed
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • salt and black pepper to taste

How to Cook:
  • Soak the red beans, white beans, chickpeas and wheat in water overnight. The next day, strain them.
  • In a high-pressure cooker, fry the onion with olive oil until they become nearly gold.
  • Then, add red beans, white beans, chickpeas and wheat. Cover with 3 cups water, close the cooker and cook for half an hour.
  • Once the cooker is cold, open it and add the lentil and thick cracked wheat. Season with cumin, salt, and black pepper, then, add another 2 cups of water, close the cooker and cook for another half an hour.
