milk cookies (kaak bi halib)

Try Sousou's way of preparing mouthwatering Milk Cookies


200 g butter

2 cups sugar

1 ½ cups milk

1 kg + 1 cup flour

2 eggs

1 tablespoon powdered anise

¼ teaspoon fenugreek

¼ teaspoon nutmeg

¼ teaspoon mastic

1 tablespoon baking powder

1½ tablespoon instant yeast

1 pinch vanilla

1 tablespoon orange blossom water

How to Cook:

Place the milk, butter and sugar in a saucepan and stir on low heat until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves.

Combine the 1kg flour with the eggs, fenugreek, mastic, nutmeg, anise, baking powder and yeast then, add vanilla and Orange blossom water. Add the milk and butter mixture, then knead all ingredients by hand.  If more flour is required add gradually and

Cover with a Nylon sheet and a dry kitchen towel and let rest for 2 hours.

Divide the dough into pieces of equal sizes. Roll each of the pieces into a sausage-like shape and bring ends together to form a ring. Place them on a tray.

Pre-heat the oven at 180 degrees C. and place the baking tray in the middle shelf. Bake until golden brown.

Optional: For more flavor, you can sprinkle the cookies with sesame or granulated sugar, before baking.
